Senator Bob Margett is a dedicated public servant with a history of working to improve our schools, protect neighborhoods from violent crime, and return control back to local neighborhoods. He was elected to represent the 29th Senate District in November 2000. He served in the State Assembly, representing the 59th Assembly District from 1995-2000.
Prior to being elected to the Legislature, Margett served as both Mayor and Councilman of the City of Arcadia and as Chairman of the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority. Combined, the experiences have given him insight and understanding to the 29th district which now encompasses parts of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties.
The newly redrawn 29th district includes the cities of: Arcadia, Bradbury, Brea, Charter Oak, Chino, Chino Hills, Claremont, Diamond Bar, Glendora, La Crescenta-Montrose, La Habra, La Habra Heights, La Verne, Mayflower Village, Monrovia, North El Monte, Placentia, San Dimas, Sierra Madre, Walnut and Yorba Linda. It also includes portions of Anaheim, the Angeles National Forest, Citrus, City of Industry, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Hacienda Heights and Rowland Heights.
Margett and his wife, Beverly, have been residents of Arcadia for 38 years. They have seven children and ten grandchildren. Margett attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he majored in Economics and Business Administration. He is a former business owner, engineering contractor and is a partner in industrial properties.
Margett's dedication to his community has not gone unrecognized. He was honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors with the Los Angeles County Distinguished Legislative Service Award. Margett was named Legislator of the Year by the Safari Club International, the California Women in Agriculture, and the American Subcontractors Association of California, Inc. In 2002 he was honored as the University of California Alumni Legislator of the Year.
Senator Margett serves on the following committees: Local Government (Vice Chair), Public Safety, Budget and Fiscal Review, Labor and Industrial Relations, Governmental Organization, and Agriculture and Water Resources, as well as several select committees.
