April 17, 2009: Bates was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Corrections Standards Authority.

Patricia Bates, 70, of Laguna Niguel, has been appointed to the Corrections Standards Authority. She has served on the Orange County Board of Supervisors since 2007. From 1998 to 2004, Bates was a California State Assemblymember, where she served as vice chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee and Assembly Health Committee. She served as the founding mayor of Laguna Niguel from 1989 and was a member of the Laguna Niguel City Council from 1989 to 1998. Since 1980, she has co-owned John Bates and Associates. Bates was previously appointed to the Little Hoover Commission and California Performance Review Commission. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no salary. Bates is a Republican.
