October 12, 2009: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed Ammiano's AB 1176 concerned with financing of infrastructure projects at San Francisco's ports. On Oct. 27th the editor of the San Francisco Bay Guardian wrote about his observation of a hidden expletive phrase in the governor's veto message: "F#@k You." The governor's staffers dismissed the acrostic as coincidental but previous animosity between Ammiano and the governor (see Oct. 7, 2009, below) suggested a possibility that it was purposeful. The story was quickly circulated in national news outlets.

In 2000, after the institution of district elections, Ammiano was elected District 9 Supervisor, representing the Mission District, Bernal Heights and Portola neighborhoods. Ammiano served as President of the Board of Supervisors from 1998 to 2002. He also served on the Golden Gate Bridge Board and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

1990-1994: Ammiano served on the San Francisco School Board and was elected president of the board.

1968: Ammiano worked as a public school teacher in San Francisco.

Ammiano is a native of New Jersey. He earned his B.A. from Seton Hall and his Masters Degree in special education from San Francisco State University.
