October 16, 2007: The California Nurses Association demanded that Nunez abstain from voting on health-care legislation because his wife works for a nonprofit agency bankrolled by the hospital industry. Maria Robles was hired in January 2007 as president of Californians for Patient Care, a Sacramento-based nonprofit agency that receives nearly all its funding from the California Hospital Association.

October 10, 2007: The Los Angeles Times reported on 2006 Nunez campaign filings that listed tens of thousands of dollars of expenses on luxury goods and exclusive hotels and restaurants in Europe and South America. Nunez defended the expenses in a press conference on October 12 as part of doing business abroad to meet with dignitaries and gather information. "Every expenditure I made has been totally legitimate," said Nunez. State law allows politicians to spend political donations on travel, meetings and gifts so long as the purchases are related to a political, governmental or legislative purpose.

November 2004: Nunez was re-elected to the California State Assembly.

November 2002: Nunez was elected to the California State Assembly.

2000-2002: Nunez was government affairs director for the Los Angeles Unified School District.

1996-2000: Nunez served as political director for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.

Nunez earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and education from Pitzer College in Claremont. He has three children.
