July 14, 2009: Chu won the special election for the 32nd Congressional District. Chu replaced Hilda Solis who vacated a seat to fill a position in President Barack Obama's administration.

May 19, 2009: Chu won the special primary election for the 32nd Congressional District.

November 2006: Chu was elected to the State Board of Equalization, representing the fourth district.

-- Chu served as a member of the state Assembly representing the 49th district.

1988-2001: Chu served on the Monterey Park City Council for thirteen years and served as mayor three times.

1985-1988: Chu was a board member of the Garvey School District.

-- Chu was a community college professor in psychology for 20 years.
-- Chu is married to Mike Eng.
