Oct. 20, 2011: Cardoza announced he will retire from from U.S. Congress at the end of 2010 rather than run again in a newly redrawn district.

Jan. 3, 2003 Cardoza began representing California's 18th Congressional District, succeeding Gary Condit.

1996–2002 Cardoza represented the 26th state Assembly district.

1994: Cardoza was appointed to the Merced City Council.

1984: Cardoza began served a term on the Atwater City Council.

1979: Cardoza was an intern on Capitol Hill.
