March 6, 2007: Haidl pleaded guilty to filing a fraudulent federal income tax return for 2002 after using hundreds of thousands of dollars from partnerships, trust accounts and businesses he controlled to pay some of his son’s legal fees and failing to report this money as income, which caused a tax loss of between $200,000 and $400,000. In his plea agreement, Haidl admitted making illegal payments to Orange County Mike Carona and assistant sheriff George Jaramillo.

March 23, 2005: Haidl's son Gregory and two friends were were convicted on six felonies for sexually assaulting a drunken 16-year-old girl on March 11, 2002, at a party in his parents' Corona del Mar home. The assault was recorded on videotape. The three were under 18 at the time but tried as adults. They were sentenced on July 5, 2006, to six years apiece in prison. The first trial ended in a hung jury in June 2004.

January 1999: Haidl was appointed to the position of assistant sheriff for reserves by Orange County Mike Carona.
