April 17, 2009: Lungren was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as assistant director for communications for the Department of Developmental Services.

Nancy Lungren, 54, of Sacramento, has been appointed assistant director for communications for the Department of Developmental Services. She has worked for the California Department of Food and Agriculture where she has served as deputy secretary for public outreach since 2008 and previously served as deputy secretary for public affairs from 2005 to 2008. In 2005, Lungren served as chief of communications for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and, from 2004 to 2005, she was the assistant director of communications and public affairs for the California Department of Youth Authority. Lungren was the regional representative for the California State Senator Rico Oller from 1997 to 2004, president of Lungren and Company from 1988 to 2004 and vice president of The Hannaford Company from 1991 to 1993. From 1984 to 1991, she was the executive and legislative assistant for California Assemblymember John Lewis and, from 1978 to 1983, Lungren was a legal secretary and paralegal for the Law Offices of Howard Shelton. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100,428. Lungren is a Republican.
