August 2009: Pierce filed papers to run in the 2010 state Assembly District 7 Democratic primary. 2007-08 Pierce was active in the Obama presidential campaign. 2006-07 Pierce served as vice mayor of Santa Rosa. Pierce was the first black man elected to the Santa Rosa City Council.
