2009: From SacBee's Bob Shallit: "Parrish Collins, died from complications of pneumonia – at the age of 30 – leaving [Fulkerson] to raise their infant daughter, Amiya, on her own.
Like Fulkerson, Collins was an emerging star at the Capitol – a guy who started literally on the ground floor, as a driver for then-Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez, and rose to become a policy adviser."

Nov. 20, 2007: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Fulkerson deputy secretary of communications for the State and Consumer Services Agency.

Fulkerson, 28, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy secretary of communications for the State and Consumer Services Agency. Since March 2007, she has served as associate deputy director of communications for the Office of Governor Schwarzenegger. Fulkerson previously was press secretary for Governor Schwarzenegger's 2007 Inaugural Committee and regional press secretary for Californians for Schwarzenegger 2006. From 2005 to 2006, she was a junior associate for the public affairs firm APCO Worldwide. Prior to that, Fulkerson was a public affairs assistant for the Department of Water Resources from 2004 to 2005. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $91,932. Fulkerson is a Republican.
