February 2011: Walker retired from the bench to a private law practice, specializing mediation and arbitration.

Aug. 4, 2010: Walker ruled that California's Proposition 8 is unconstitutional. State voters passed in Nov. 2008 the measure that changed the state's definition of marriage to one man and one woman. Walker was appointed to the bench by President George H.W. Bush.

Walker is a former corporate lawyer.
