April 27, 2010: Maldonado took the oath of office as lt. governor one day after state Senate confirmation. He was approved by the state Assembly on April 25th. This was the second go around for the legislature -- he didn't gain enough Assembly confirmation votes on the first try February so Gov. Schwarzenegger withdrew his nomination of Maldonado and resubmitted it.
February 12, 2010: Gov. Schwarzenegger announced he intends to withdraw and renominate Sen. Maldonado as lt. governor, stating he would "ask the Assembly to take the vote again until a majority decision is reached one way or another." Sen. Maldonado said he was "very disappointed with yesterday's show of extreme partisanship and politicking in the Assembly," but he accepts the governor's action.
February 11, 2010: After the state Senate voted to confirm Maldonado as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's pick for lt. governor (to replace John Garamendi) the Assembly twice failed to reach a majority confirmation vote. http://www.totalcapitol.com/?blog&id=99 The governor's office announced that Maldonado would be sworn in as lt. governor since a majority vote was not reached to deny confirmation.
November 23, 2009: Appointed Lieutenant Governor by Gov. Arnold Schwazenegger after Former Lt. Gov. John Garamendi left office for Congress. The appointment was announced on Jay Leno's show.
