Initiative for the June 5, 2012 primary ballot that places a $1 levy on each pack of cigarettes sold in California. Most of the money raised would be directed to a new, independent quasi-public agency that would award grants for research on cancer and other smoking-related illnesses, such as heart and lung diseases.
